Vitamins and Supplements As Treatment for Baldness
  • Male baldness can occur due to a lack of B vitamins (especially B6, folic acid and biotin).
  • Minerals like zinc and magnesium stimulate hair growth and should feature in a healthy diet or can be take as supplements.
  • Essential fatty acids such as salmon oil and evening primrose (a herb) oil improve the texture of the hair and help avoid dry or brittle hair.
The intake of vitamin supplements is proven to be successful when it comes to finding a remedy for baldness. The mineral zinc has been tried and tested and is now an accepted remedy for early baldness.

Hypnotic Hair Restoration

Clinical hypnosis is another way of treatment for baldness. A widely accepted way to tackle the problem, this form of hypnosis is based on the idea that self-image and stress trigger hair loss. A hypnosis session will usually last for an hour, performed once a week during 6 to 12 sessions, varying per patient. There are self-hypnosis tapes on the market but this therapy should only be conducted by a trained professional.
Other Techniques: Hair Transplantation
In hair transplantation, healthy hair is taken from the back of the head (in very small amounts) and transplanted to balding areas. The new hair will stay there and grow within 4 months. The procedure is performed under a local anaesthetic and can take up to 8 hours to perform depending on the size of the bald area.

Latest Findings

Essential Oil Therapy
New research has shown that some aromatherapy oils can stimulate hair growth. Tests in the Royal Infirmary in Scotland have shown that 86 male baldness patients experienced re-growth of their hair after treatment with (diluted or pure) essential oils. Patients massaged their heads with the following oils and experienced improvement with this treatment for baldness after a few months:

1. Cedarwood oil
2. Thyme oil
3. Lavender oil
4. Rosemary oil
Stem Cell Research and Baldness Cure
In stem cell treatment, one of the latest baldness treatments, stem cells (enabling hair to grow) are taken from healthy hair follicles that are still producing hair. These stem cells are multiplied in a laboratory and implanted in bald areas on the head. The treatment is still quite experimental but knowledge due to research is growing rapidly. When successful this could be one of the most effective male baldness treatments.
