Wooly Hair Syndrome Wooly hair syndrome refers to a condition that results in tightly curled and wiry hair. This type of hair resembles wool. It is caused by a defect in the structure of scalp hair. This condition occurs either during birth or in the first month of the baby. The curls lie closely together making the hair difficult to comb. This type of hair is much fragile than other types of hair. This syndrome will usually lessen in adulthood. Wooly hair syndrome is said be present in European family in 1907 by Gossage. The texture of the African hair is said to be wooly. But there is a difference between African hair and frizzy and wiry hair present among non- Africans. The African hair usually lies separately but the wooly hair generally merges. So it is called as wooly hair syndrome. This kind of hair covers only certain portions of skull. more terms explained here |
