Hair gel refers to a hair styling product that is used for stiffening the hair to achieve a particular hair style. Its functionality is somewhat similar to hair spray. But the results produced are stronger than the hair spray. But hair glue or hair wax is much stronger than hair gel. Though many people believe that hair gel leads to hair loss, it is not yet proven.

There are various hair gel brands. Many UK and North American hair gel brands come in numbered variants. Generally high -numbered gels have greater hold on the hair and low numbered do not give the stiffness to the hair and some products also give the hair a wet look.

There are various forms of hair gel. Some forms of hair gel include temporary coloring for the hair which are often unnatural. But excessive use of hair gel may cause dandruff and also hair gel should be chosen according to the type of one's hair.
