Hair Coloring Hair coloring refers to the process of changing the color of the hair using chemical or natural ingredients. There are four broad categories of hair coloring products. They are temporary, semi permanent, deposit only and permanent. Except the semi permanent products, all the other categories require patch tests. By doing patch test, the client will be known whether or not he is allergic to a product. There is also a process called hair lightening which is also known as bleaching or decolorizing. It is a chemical process that involves the diffusion of the natural color pigment or artificial color from the hair. The process is the same for both permanent hair colors and hair lighteners. Both permanent hair color products and lighteners contain developer and oxidizing agent and an alkalizing ingredient that forms the part of their ammonia or an ammonia substitute. The lightening happens when alkaline peroxide replaces a new color breaking up the melanin. more terms explained here |
