Hair Conditioners

Hair conditioners refer to hair care products that are used for improving the texture and appearance of the hair. There are different types of hair conditioning ingredients. They all have unique composition and uses. There are moisturizers, reconstructors, acidifiers, detanglers, thermal protectors, oils and surfactants, lubricants, sequestrants, antistatic agents and preservatives. Several types of conditioners are Pack conditioners, leave-in conditioners, ordinary conditioners and hold conditioners.

Pack conditioners are left in the hair for a longer time. Leave -in conditioners involves adding materials to the hair. Normal or ordinary conditioners are combination of leave in and pack conditioners. Hold conditioners are based on cationic polyelectrolyte polymers. They are called so because they can hold the hair in the desired shape. In both functionality and composition they are similar to diluted hair gels.

Conditioners allow forming of hydrogen bonds between the keratin scales. As a result, the hair gets a compact structure. Conditioners are also acidic. Citric acid or other organic acids help to maintain the acidity. So they are used as active ingredients in conditioners.
