Skin Abrasion

An abrasion is an injury that results in the hair on the head or body being scraped away. When an abrasion occurs, the hair in the area will be completely gone.

Depending on what happens to the skin underneath the abrasion, the hair may or may not grow back. An abrasion that leads to scarring of the skin will usually not have hair that grows back. In this case, the hair will either need to be styled around the abrasion, or a wig or hair transplant might need to be considered.

Typically, unless a person is in a major accident, abrasions are not a big problem when it comes to styling hair. Large abrasions are usually treated using wigs or hair transplants. If the abrasion does not cause scar tissue to form, then nothing needs to be done, other than for the person to wait for the hair to grow back.
