Antidandruff Agents Antidandruff agents are the substances that are added to shampoos to help reduce the amount of dandruff in the scalp. Dandruff is the dry skin that occurs in the scalp. It can create unsightly flakes on the clothing of the person suffering from the condition. There are many over the counter antidandruff agents on the market today. In the shampoo department of most retail stores, consumers can find a variety of antidandruff shampoos. The most common and effective dandruff controlling ingredient is Tea Tree Oil. Shampoo containing Tea Tree Oil is highly effective in controlling dandruff on the scalp. It is a harsh shampoo, though, so it should not be used every day. If it is used every day, chances are it will dry out the user's hair. For severe dandruff cases a prescription antidandruff agent may be necessary, but this is a rare condition.
